How It WorksLipotropic Nutrient Blend (Not a Peptide) — Formula Varies by Vendor
Target → Signal → Effect → Outcomes
Several Nutrients, Not One Receptor
Lipo-C is not a peptide and has no single receptor target. It is a premixed solution of nutrients — typically L-methionine, choline and L-carnitine, often with vitamin B12 and other B vitamins such as dexpanthenol (B5) or pyridoxine (B6). Each ingredient acts through its own ordinary nutrient pathway.
Methyl Donors and the Carnitine Shuttle
Methionine and choline feed the body's methylation (one-carbon) pathways, and B12 is the cofactor that regenerates methionine from homocysteine. L-carnitine carries long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria. "Lipotropic" is the historical label for nutrients such as choline whose deficiency was linked to fat accumulating in the liver.
Documented in Deficiency, Not for the Blend
The documented human effects belong to the single ingredients in deficiency states — choline-deficient diets and fatty liver (Zeisel & da Costa, 2009), B12 deficiency and anemia or neuropathy (Stabler, 2013). We found no published randomized trial of the combined injection blend.
No Trial-Measured Effect for the Blend
Because the blend itself has not been trialed, there is no trial-documented effect to report. Claims about fat loss or energy from lipotropic injections are marketing and community anecdote, not trial findings. In people without B12 deficiency, a 2021 meta-analysis found no cognitive or mood benefit from B12 (Markun et al., 2021).
What Makes This Peptide Different
Lipo-C is unusual on this site because it is a formula, not a compound. Two vials sold under the same name can hold different ingredients: one vendor's lot report lists B12, another's lists none. The useful comparison is the certificate of analysis — which nutrients, at how many mg per mL — rather than the label. See the Lipo-C buying guide for each vendor's published contents, and the B12 buying guide for single-ingredient B12.

FAQ
What is Lipo-C?
Lipo-C is a lipotropic injection blend, not a peptide. It is a premixed multi-nutrient solution, usually sold in a 10 mL multi-dose vial, built around amino acids and nutrients such as L-methionine, choline and L-carnitine, often with vitamin B12 and other B vitamins. There is no single standard formula: the lot certificates of analysis published by the vendors we track list different ingredient sets, so the COA, not the product name, describes what is in a given vial.
What does published research report about lipotropic blends?
We found no published randomized trial of a combined lipotropic injection blend. Research exists for single ingredients in deficiency settings: choline is an essential nutrient, and choline-deficient diets were linked to fatty liver in human studies (Zeisel & da Costa, 2009), while B12 corrects deficiency anemia and neuropathy (Stabler, 2013). A 2021 meta-analysis of 16 trials found no benefit of B12 on cognition or depressive symptoms in people without overt deficiency (Markun et al., 2021).
Is Lipo-C FDA-approved?
No. The combined blend is not an FDA-approved drug product. Some single ingredients exist as approved injections for diagnosed deficiency states (cyanocobalamin, levocarnitine), but the multi-ingredient blend does not. Research-grade Lipo-C vials are labeled for laboratory research use only and not for human consumption.
Does every Lipo-C product contain B12?
No. The name "Lipo-C" does not guarantee B12. Among the products we track, EZ Peptides' lab report lists methylcobalamin and hydroxocobalamin and Ion Peptide's LIPO-C + B12 lists methylcobalamin, while Mile High Compounds' Lipo-C certificate lists methionine, choline, L-carnitine and dexpanthenol with no B12 measured.
