Body weight reduction in obesity
STEP-1 (Wilding 2021, n=1961) randomized adults with overweight/obesity to once-weekly semaglutide 2.4 mg or placebo for 68 weeks and showed mean body weight reduction of 14.9% vs 2.4% placebo. The STEP program (1-8) replicated the effect across diabetic, adolescent, and post-bariatric populations. This is the largest weight-loss effect of any approved chronic weight-management agent prior to tirzepatide.

Our take
Until tirzepatide showed up, this was the standard. Still the most widely-prescribed chronic weight-management agent globally.
